Every year, we come together to select our word of the year for our business. We started this practice many years ago personally, and after witnessing how it helped in our personal lives, we decided it only made sense to do the same for our business.

Choosing a word of the year allows entrepreneurs to set goals with their WHY in mind. Traditional goal-setting can lead to burn out or a sense of failure when goals are set based on what we feel we should be doing vs. what our hearts actually desire. One single word allows each goal to align with the heart of our business and tends to keep entrepreneurs motivated month after month.

Word of the Year: The Year of Clarity
It’s with no surprise, 2020 has been deemed the year of vision for many (20/20 vision), and for us, 2020 is the year of Clarity. But believe it or not, the word came to us when we least expected it.
After taking a 6-month maternity leave, we jumped in full-force by participating in a local event to get involved again. During the setup, we realized we didn’t create any marketing material because honestly, we didn’t have a clear vision for the direction we were headed. We knew we were on the right track, but we didn’t know exactly where that path was taking us. We also didn’t know what our true purpose and goals were for participating in that event. Sounds crazy, right?!
Well, while we began discussing what we were doing, we ended up having a five minute conversation that clarified everything! It was the light bulb we had been searching for all along. It flashed, and there before our eyes was our future, our why, clear as day. We were able to hone in on what our purpose is here at The Bee, who we want to serve, and how we plan to do it in 2020 and the years to come.
We transitioned The Busy Bee from a full service wedding planning company to a full-time blog in 2018. During that time we began planting seeds and found ourselves in a season of waiting. And here we were, standing in the middle of an event, discovering the fruit of those seeds, our hard work and patience, and discovered our word of the year: The Year of Clarity.
It’s All So Clear
The Busy Bee is a resource for simplifying hosting one #HostfulHack at a time. Founded by two sisters with a passion for entertaining loved ones, we are on a mission to inspire the hostful at heart. The Busy Bee offers hosting tips and tricks, simple recipes, how-to’s, entertaining guides and more to help you spend less time in the kitchen and more time with loved ones.
Goal Setting
So, you may be wondering how we are going to achieve our goals this year and beyond with clarity in mind. If you don’t know, we are big fans of Cultivate What Matters and their PowerSheets! PowerSheets guide you through personal and professional goals by starting with the prep work (getting to know your why behind your goals), breaking the big picture goals down into mini-goals (create action steps), and then the PowerSheets provide a 90-day check-in to refresh goals, decipher what is and isn’t working, and create new action steps for the next 90 days.
Defining our word of the year helped us map out our BIG PICTURE goals, our main goals for 2020, and finally, our mini goals/action steps for January. To help keep us accountable, we want to share these goals with you each month. It is our hope to share how we use 2020 PowerSheets with you through a mini-series right here on the blog. Until then, be sure to check back each month on our monthly progress to living out a year with clear purpose and intention!
