A retreat from the craziness of the day. Caring for our home, and enjoying that cared-for home, has a significant impact on our overall well-being. A clean and organized living space can help us feel relaxed, productive, and ready to take on the day. And the best way to create a clean, organized living space? A homemaking routine. Make a schedule
The first step to successful homemaking is creating a schedule. Write down all the chores that need to be done around the house, and divide them up by day, week, or month. This way, you’ll have a clear idea of what needs to be done and when. You can set reminders on your phone or computer to keep you on track, or use a planner (Day Designer makes our favorite!).
Declutter regularly

A cluttered home can make it difficult to find things, and it can also be overwhelming to look at. To combat clutter, set aside some time each week to declutter. This can be as simple as going through a few drawers or as complex as tackling a whole room. Donate or sell anything you don’t need, and try to keep surfaces clear of unnecessary items.
You may have seen Jenna’s recent home project of decluttering closets with her family. It can be so freeing to get rid of the clutter!
Develop a cleaning routine

Cleaning is an essential part of homemaking routine, but it doesn’t have to be a dreaded task. By breaking down the cleaning process into smaller tasks, you can make it more manageable. Create a daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning routine that includes everything from sweeping the floors to deep-cleaning the bathrooms. Stick to your schedule, and you’ll have a clean and organized home in no time.
Hostful Hack No. 22: The vacuum hack. Sprinkle baking soda on area rugs in high traffic areas. Wait 15 minutes and vacuum up the powder. This will leave rugs and rooms smelling fresh!

We also believe in using products you love for those everyday tasks. Whether it be using a special dish soap, counter spray, or beautiful tea towels, using elevated basics can make cleaning way more enjoyable.
Meal planning

We’ve covered this before, but meal planning can really be a game-changer when it comes to a homemaking routine. By planning out your meals for the week, you can save time, money, and reduce food waste. Create a grocery list based on your meal plan and shop accordingly. Prepping meals in advance can also make dinnertime less stressful.
Laundry routine

Laundry is another chore that can pile up quickly if not done regularly. To make laundry less overwhelming, develop a routine. Sort laundry by color and fabric, and do a load or two each day. Fold and put away clothes as soon as they’re dry to avoid wrinkles and clutter.

Create a welcoming atmosphere

A clean and organized home is important, but so is creating a welcoming atmosphere. Adding personal touches, like family photos or fresh flowers, can make your home feel more inviting. You can also create a cozy ambiance by adding soft lighting and comfortable seating.
Hostful Hack No. 47: Smell. Greet guests with scented, seasonal candles/oils as they enter each room. Just remember to set them high if you’ll have little ones running around!

Get the whole family involved
Finally, a homemaking routine shouldn’t be a one-person job. Get the whole family involved in the process. Assign age-appropriate chores to each family member, and work together to keep the home clean and organized. Not only will this lighten your workload, but it will also teach your children the importance of taking care of their living space.
Homemaking is a vital part of daily life. By creating a schedule, decluttering regularly, developing a cleaning routine, meal planning, creating a laundry routine, creating a welcoming atmosphere, and getting the whole family involved, you can make homemaking easier and more efficient. With a clean and organized home, you’ll feel more relaxed, productive, and ready to take on whatever the day brings.
