This year, planning for Easter festivities is a bit different than anything we have ever experienced. A couple of months ago as we looked ahead to Easter Sunday, we envisioned sitting on the brick patio in Mimi’s backyard while our one year olds crawled around and the older kids searched high and low for carefully hidden Easter eggs. We pictured ourselves reminiscing about Charley and Max’s first birthday celebrations and calling attention to the many blessings the Lord gifted us this past year. We’d tell stories about Easter one year ago, when the babies were just 13 and 7 days old, and how they slept most of the afternoon while everyone took turns holding and snuggling them. Instead, this year, we will each be celebrating Easter in our individual homes, distanced from one another as we try to stop the spread of a virus that has changed the world as we’ve known it.

While Easter won’t be how we envisioned it, we’re still planning to continue making memories and doing the things that bring us joy. And it’s no secret around here that setting the table is one of those things. Ever since we were little girls, we were in charge of setting the table at Mimi and Nana’s house while they pulled dinner out of the oven. We set dinner plates and napkins, filled water glasses with ice and water and made sure there were enough place settings for everyone who was eager to dig in.
This year, as we prepare Easter dinner with our small families, we are planning to set the table for our husbands and little ones with a Spring-inspired tablescape that will last throughout the season. A tablescape that encourages everyone to sit and stay awhile, to enjoy some friendly conversation and to celebrate the resurrection of our savior.
Will you join us in setting the table this Easter despite the circumstances? Just as we did when we were little girls, we’ll be setting out dinner plates and napkins, prefilling drinking glasses and making sure there is a place setting designated for each of our loved ones.
And if you’re looking for some inspiration, here are all the details we ordered for our Easter tablescape using Target drive up. Plus, we’re sharing some simple ways to recreate this look with items you might already have on hand!
