We’ll be the first to admit we are not professionals when it comes to styling a flower arrangement. In our years of wedding planning, blogging, and finally launching APIARY, we’ve relied on professionals to bring stunning flowers and greenery to life. Of course, the results of hiring a professional florist are always stunning and we’ve never regretted it, but it’s a cost that sometimes doesn’t fit into our budget.

Whether you’re hosting, gifting a loved one, or you simply want to liven up a space in your home, hiring a florist or purchasing an expensive floral arrangement likely isn’t realistic. Not to mention, creating a beautiful arrangement might seem intimidating. (It sure seems that way to us!)
So, how do we achieve an elevated floral aesthetic without going over budget and with a professional, polished look? We’re sharing 3 easy ways to get a professional-looking flower arrangement – no experience required.
Style a Flower Arrangement With No Experience
#HostfulHack: Incorporate Herbs
Often overlooked, herbs are a multi-faceted option when looking to create a beautiful arrangement. Not only do herbs bring a variety of colors to another space, many also offer a welcoming, fresh fragrance, creating a two-fold ambiance in your home with one simple item.

#HostfulHack: Potted Plants
Head to your local nursery and select a few potted plants for the easiest way to have a gorgeous floral arrangement with almost no work. When you get home, simply repot the plants into decorative planters, vases or pots, for a polished look in no time.

#HostfulHack: Grocery Store Florals
Grocery store florals offer a quick option when wanting to brighten up your home or gift a beautiful arrangement to a loved one. We often find ourselves drawn to a variety of blooms, but then it’s up to us to do the arranging, which is where we usually get stuck.
Let’s get unstuck.

We’ve found an easy way to arrange flowers (that we used in the floral arrangement you see above!) with one very simple tool that you probably have in your house right now: tape.
Grocery Store Floral Arranging Tips (For Non-Professionals!):
1. Always create a grid system for your vessel using floral tape (or scotch tape if that’s what you have on hand). It will provide support for your florals while you arrange them.
2. Prepare the florals before arranging. Carefully remove foliage that will fall below the water level. Remove guard petals (the outermost petals on a flower). Trim the stems at an angle to widen the surface area for better hydration. Fluff your flowers.
3. Begin arranging with greenery and foliage around the perimeter to create a base. Then, fill in with larger blooms towards the center until the arrangement is full.

Pull the Look Together: The Vessel
Creating a floral arrangement that feels polished and professional while not breaking the bank is one half of the entire look. The vessel in which you choose to place your florals can elevate your arrangement with a complete aesthetic.
When choosing the vessel, consider the occasion and the florals themselves. Typically, we love choosing light, neutral vases and planters that allow the greenery to shine; however, if you have herbs or another option that doesn’t convey vibrant hues, consider going with a vessel that makes a statement, such as these Weathered Black Cement Planters.
Flower Arrangements: Think Outside the Planter
Consider employing a pitcher to do the job normally a planter or vase would. We absolutely love pairing floral arrangements with pitchers for a unique visual that adds charm and style to any space.
Looking to elevate a flower arrangement to a loved one? Use a pitcher that can be used in a variety of ways, making your gift not only stunning, but also functional and purposeful.

The Buzzworthy Takeaway
When it comes to arranging florals, practice is truly key. This specific skill has actually been on our radar for years and we plan to implement this goal in 2022 by continuing to hone our floral abilities.
Finally, keep in mind that whether you’re gifting flowers or receiving a bouquet, this thoughtful offer is an expression of appreciation and love (no matter how the florals are arranged). Be present, literally smell the roses, and tell the people in your life what they mean to you this holiday.
Happy Valentine’s Day, Busy Bee!
