The Busy Bee is a resource for simplifying hosting one #HostfulHack at a time. Founded by two sisters, Shannon and Jenna, who have a passion for entertaining loved ones, we are on a mission to inspire the hostful at heart. The Busy Bee offers hosting tips and tricks, simple recipes, how-to’s, entertaining guides and more to help you spend less time in the kitchen and more time with loved ones.
For as long as I can remember, others have described me as a perfectionist with Type A personality traits. I can’t say I can argue with their description, but lately I’ve been working on choosing present over perfect and learning to let go of the things I can’t control with much thanks to my little one. In many ways, becoming a mom recently has highlighted the aspects of life that matter to me most. It has helped me understand who I want to be and how I want to be remembered, and while perfectionism and Type A personality traits often come with negative connotations, I have learned to embrace these qualities as just a part of who I am and how I serve others.
I love a clean space, because I want others to feel like I prepared for their arrival. I will work on something until its perfect, because I want the final product to serve others with purpose. I like things just so, because it clears my mental clutter and allows me to be more present.
On the weekends, I like to completely disconnect and forget all about my to-do’s. Sundays are my absolute favorite and include church and Park Avenue brunch dates with my boys. Oh, and no chores! I could eat seafood every day of the week and love an occasional glass of white wine. I have a slight shoe addiction and have been known to purchase two of the same pair in case I wear one out. I love traveling the world, especially Europe, but I leave all our travel itineraries to my husband. On vacation, I prefer to be told where I’m going and what time I need to be there, so I don’t have to stress about the details. I do that enough in my day to day.
I’ve often been told to do what I love, and there is no doubt I am doing just that. The Busy Bee is my creative endeavor that allows me to fulfill my passions and serve others with love and intention.
I’m your typical Enneagram Type 2 meets Type 9 – also known as ‘The Helper’ and ‘The Peacemaker.’ Most days, you can find me writing a new story in my head, homeschooling my two older children, and obsessing over new paper products: I.e Journals & Planners.
Most would describe me as a Type B who thrives in a world of creativity and views the world as though I’m looking through a camera lens. Colors inspire me and neutrals bring me life.
As a guest in our home, you would most likely be greeted by my three energetic children (+ dog Joplin!), enjoy one of our family’s favorite easy recipes (easy recipes are my jam), and finish the night with s’mores and laughter near a campfire. Our home is our passion project, and one day we hope raise our family on a farm with lots of open spaces to explore.
I’m the kind of friend that likes to go deep. There’s nothing that brings me more joy than sitting with a close friend sharing a cup of hot coffee and our life stories.
After the loss of our twins, I’ve set out to live a life full of purpose and intention and use my time wisely to connect with others. I’ve learned how precious this gift of life is, and it is my hope to be fully present. When I’m 80, I want to be surrounded by loved ones and share stories about hosting the neighborhood children and lifelong friends. I want to be able to say I lived a life of legacy and I was the friend who showed up, loved well, and created a space that made everyone feel at home.
My everyday life might be messy & loud but it’s always all about grace.
