Why We Love Flour Sacks as Dinner Napkins
While we can name 50 different uses for flour sacks (post coming soon!), one of our favorites is using them as dinner napkins. We have found them to be highly functional, extremely affordable and also quite stylish. They’re pretty absorbent which is great for wiping hands and mouths. They’re also lint-free, so you don’t have to worry about leaving guests with unwanted fibers on their attire after placing them on their laps. Simply fold them, tie them in a knot or drape them over a plate for an effortless look.
Get Creative
Furthermore, you can customize flour sacks to match any tablescape design with some simple DIY techniques. Use fresh vegetables such as cabbage, beets or tumeric to create natural colored dyes if you want to add a pop of color. All-purpose liquid dye works too! Embroider your flour sacks using needle and thread to sew on monograms or decorative details. Create your own stamps using foam sheets adhered to a piece of wood and fabric-safe paints like we did at our recent workshop. The possibilities are endless, so don’t be afraid to think outside the box!
