Nick and I just celebrated her 10 years of marriage and Shannon is coming up on her 6th wedding anniversary, and after planning countless weddings, guiding our couples through their wedding registries (Where to Begin, When to Register and How to Register), we’ve come up with a list of five things we wish we registered for while we were engaged. Truth be told, I didn’t register for our wedding because Nick and I were young and we wanted to save up money for our new lives together. Shannon registered for Fine China and family gave money towards a down payment for their first home. So now that we’re older, wiser and been married for quite some time, here’s our top five things we wish we registered for.
When we first got married, we purchased affordable pots and pans but didn’t do any research as to what would last or what was best for us. Would you believe me if I told you we waited until this past Christmas, yes 10 years later, to invest in pots and pans that are high quality? We did a lot of research and found Copper Pots and Pans to be high on the list for quality! Now if only we knew this back when we were 20 and 22.
Flatware
Again, being so young when we married in 2009, our goal at the time was to budget everything. Our flatware at the time was purchased at the lowest cost. Granted, they lasted for ten years but they weren’t anything we loved. They were a necessity and we gave up our style for the sake of saving money. One of the things we wish we registered for is a good set of quality flatware that matched our lifestyle.
Towels
We wish we would have registered for towels when we got married. A nice set of matching, high-quality towels that could be used for both us and while hosting guest. There’s nothing like wrapping up in a freshly washed, oversize towel or even walking into a clean bathroom that has freshly folded towels placed out for overnigh guest.
Gadgets
Some things we wish we registered for our wedding are gadgets. Gadgets are the things that you don’t typically purchase for yourself but would be fun and extra helpful to have in the kitchen. Our grandparents, Nana & Pop are the king and queen of gadgets. You know all those “As Seen on TV” ads? You can count on them to have majority of those items and we love trying them out while we visit. From a nice kitchen timer to a beautiful spice rack, gadgets would definitely make it to our registry list now-a-days if we had a chance to have a do over!
Cutlery
Recently, while hosting our Gender Reveal party, Mimi looked over in my direction and asked if I needed new knives. I laughed because our knives are as old as our marriage and another item we never invested in. Nick loves cooking for our family and trying new recipes, and there’s nothing more frustrating for him than not owning a sharp knife set. Register for a quality knife set that will last MANY years.
