The Checklist
Family photo fashion, or any group look for that matter, is more than matching colors. By keeping this handy checklist in mind, you’ll raise the bar on your photos. Here’s what to look for when styling looks for a group:
- Coordinating (not matching!) colors will bring things together in a stylish, effortless way.
- Pattern: Keep your patterns varied and think of scale; contrast a small floral print with a bold, geometric plaid.
- Solids: Great for shopping your own closet.
- Texture: This is so overlooked, but so important! Make sure the textures in your pieces are varied. Sweaters are an easy touch for fall photos.
Start with Yourself
Take the time to find an outfit that you really love. Something you feel comfortable and confident in will always elicit better photographs. We tend to gravitate towards solids, neutrals, and small prints, but you do you!
The Littles
Choosing outfits for little ones is a great time to play with pattern and color. Many options for kids are inherently more loud, so use that to your advantage and set the tone for your photos with their outfits.
Another great trick we love to use, especially if you have two littles that like to match, is to use the same outfit for multiple kids. Matching outfits instantly adds polish and a sense of intention to the whole group.
Last but Not Least: Dad
We usually find solid, neutral outfits for dad so we save his outfits for last. Dad’s pieces are a good way to solidify your color scheme and/or pull in another complementary pattern.
Shop Your Closet
Always shop your own closet(s) first! You and your family probably already own the pieces that bring you the most joy and speak the most to your personalities. Don’t be afraid to take inspiration from online and then give it your own twist by wearing clothing you already have.
The Fashion
Please note, these fall family photo fashion looks may appear differently in-person than on your screen. Actual colors may vary.
