We’re always on the lookout for cleaner, healthier alternatives in our lives: from the things we use, to the things we make, and the things we eat. For this edition of Clean Swaps, we took a look at everything Thanksgiving: from prep work through desserts and cleanup. Just like before, we challenged ourselves to not only find a Busy Bee Clean Swap that could replace beloved items, but were so good we preferred the alternative. We’re really excited to share what we’ve found with you!

Clean swaps for cooking
Days before Thanksgiving, we’re cooking as much as we can in advance. We always reach for our Caraway Home cookware because their pieces perform well and look just as good! The ceramic, toxin-free material is the primary reason we made this Clean Swap, but we’ve really come to also appreciate it for its easy cleanup and beautiful design.
Another Clean Swap we’re making this year is a change from butter to ghee. Jenna’s family has been using ghee for a while and Jenna loves it because ghee and butter have similar nutritional profiles, but ghee can be a better choice for those with lactose or casein sensitivities. Ghee is also great for cooking at higher temperatures than butter typically would be, which is certainly a plus when we’re busy cooking several dishes at a time.
Clean swaps for cocktail hour
We always try to greet our guests and make them feel welcome as soon as they enter our home. One of the best ways to do that is with drinks and food! Instead of tending bar during those last few minutes of cooking, and instead of creating super-sugary cocktails, we’ll be serving Ohza cocktails this Thanksgiving. They have delicious, festive options including Cranberry Mimosa and Red Fizzy Sangria with 80% less sugar and 60% fewer calories. We’ll always say “cheers” to a Clean Swap cocktail!
Additionally, we’ll be serving Veggies Made Great’s newest product: Stuffed Cauliflower Bites. These easy-to-serve bites are high in protein, gluten-free, and rich with vegetables–a huge step up from cheese and crackers. We’re especially excited to use the Roasted Vegetable & 4 Cheese Blend and the Mushroom & Swiss with Caramelized Onion Bites to preview the flavors of our Thanksgiving meal.
Clean swaps for dinner
Primal Kitchen has two Clean Swaps we’ll be using this year for Thanksgiving dinner. First up is their Classic Gravy; we love that this gives us a dairy-free alternative to butter-and-flour-heavy traditional gravy. Just heat and serve in a gravy boat and your guests will be happily asking for seconds. We are also bringing out Primal Kitchen’s Green Goddess Dressing; Shannon’s family has loved the taste for years and Jenna’s family loves that this dressing is an egg-free option.
Clean swaps for dishes
Lastly, dishes. When the meal is over and cleanup has begun we are always so happy we made the Clean Swap to APIARY’s Areca Palm Plates. An eco-friendly alternative to disposable dinnerware, each piece provides an elevated yet casual touch to any affair. They are made with natural, compostable and biodegradable materials that can withstand the weight of food and tolerate heat. And on top of the environmental benefits–we adore the natural texture and color these plates bring to our Thanksgiving tablescapes!
